GUALALA — November 2, 2026. Gualala Point Regional Park is a coastal park immediately south of the Gualala River and town of Gualala, managed by Sonoma County even though Gualala itself lies in Mendocino County.
A park crossing the local identity of two counties
Tourism and coastal-trail guides describe the park as a river estuary and beach landscape with open meadow, bluff trails, a visitor center and a small forest campground. A Gualala mailing address does not make it Mendocino County parkland.
The recreation choices
The park is commonly used for hiking, birdwatching, whale watching and beachcombing. The visitor center opens on selected days; it should not be assumed staffed whenever trail gates are open.
Ocean safety
The North Coast is known for dangerous surf and unexpected large waves. People should stay well back from wet cliff edges and never assume river-mouth or ocean swimming is safe simply because public beach access exists.
